Jean et John

So more spring/summer haute couture that has caught my eye. Everything is quite extravagent. The first is from Jean Paul Gaultier, the second set is from John Galliano. I must admit, alot of John Galliano's stuff is god awful ugly, but I left that out. All of the head pieces and hats are insane. I wish haute couture was all that exsisted, ready to wear is no fun. The themes are fairly similar. Crazy hats, big dresses, lots of interesting patterns and materials. Jean Paul Gaultier went for mute tones and black and whites, and John Gallianos stuff is all about COLOR!
The make up is so simple and beautiful, which is great with all the over the top clothes. When you scroll down you'll see John Galliano sort of forgot that rule.

Above is my favorite from the collection, though I would pair it with tights that were a little less seethrough!

The above dress is absolutely great, until you get to the script and realise it says Jean Paul Gaultier over and over. So bad. So tacky. Why did he think that was a good idea? Yuck. It almost completely ruins the dress. Almost.

Now below is John Gallianos stuff. The pirate hats are incredible! Possibly the best part of this is lovely Jessica Stam walked in his show!

I would love for things not to be see through. I would love for my hair to be as above every day.

Above is my favorite piece. I think all the hair is great, but as I said the make up is way too much for my taste. Not when theres so much hair and lace and pirate hats and colors and textures. Too much.

So cute!!

Wednesday

Hussein Chalayan

So, I'm pretty in love with the new Hussein Chalayan S/S collection. Though not as good as his F/W as aboslutely nothing ever is and most S/S collections are just fucking crap. This is a LONG photo post and I'm sorry, but Mr. Chlalayan is worth it.

These next five photos are from a film/photo project called Compassion Fatigue. Here is the description from his site:

2006 January-MarchScreened at Garanti Galeri, Istanbul, Turkey

This project explores the ways in which society has transformed nature into increasingly refined utilitarian Objects, E.G., the air conditioner as a means of controlling the flow of air, or the fountain as a way of directing the natural flow of water.

Aesthetic genres such as Art Nouveau and Rococo could also be – with their ornamental stylization of nature – seen as a way of taming nature. These genres, as representatives of a man made image, have themselves been assimilated into the social milieu, thus becoming a new form of nature, they form, over time, part of our natural landscape.

Inhabiting this new environment, however, has had its effect on the human body. By way of assimilation, the body has been contorted into its dimensions in order to better synchronize irself with that space. As a result, it has transformed into a motif of its environment.

By analogy, using spells in the film as the ultimate embodiment of nature, Hussein Chalayan proposes an alternative form of taming reality. The characters dressed in garments echoing the space cast a spell on the central figure. The central figure gets monumentalized as a marble statue further integrating itself into the environment. A voice subtly issuing instructions to the viewer about how they are to read images, accompanies the film, perhaps as a further means of social control.

Now this next set of photos are from the runway, the 2009 S/S collection, so gorgeous.

So many awesome head pieces!

Now, for the absolutely stunning 2008 F/W collection, which I feel is more pertinent anyway, considering winter will be here for much longer still:I would pretty much die to have either the above or below.

Tuesday

Guess who was inaugurated today?

I have known George Bush to be the President of the United States since I was 13 years old. It is an excellent feeling to be able to say President Barack Obama. My god. It was time for a change 7 years ago, thank all of the spirits that change finally came.
I know that much attention needs to be payed to our own government, but lets face it, whether we like it or not, the USA is ruling the world right now, and I am very thankful to see a different leader. Who knows if he'll be great, or even good, or even okay, politicians are still politicians, and I have very little faith, but any change is better at this point. This seems like maybe it'll even be a good one. Maybe.

Friday

People are just people, people are just people, people are just people like you.

Today I do not feel like talking about the horrible things going on in the world.
Today I re-found 2 videos, their common theme is musicians being absolutely awesome to their audience.

This one is of the absolutely stunning Regina Spektor, I'm not going to say what she does, because it is so worth the watch:

Then, of the breathtakingly sexy Devendra Banhart, there's actually different parts of footage to this, but basically, Devendra invites everyone on stage and douche bag security will not let it go down. From all the users that have posted videos they said this went on for 25 minutes. Which is why there are so many different videos of Devendra telling security off, but this one is the best:

The way he at first condescendingly taps the security guard made me want to die of laughter.

Wednesday

there may be acceptance of a cease fire soon. Israel has accepted the principles of the truce that france-egypt came up with here's the link http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/7815929.stm. Very good news, where news is all relative. Too bad that the stats make me want to throw up.

Taken from the BBC:

Palestinian health officials say at least 683 Palestinians have been killed and more than 3,085 injured since Israel began its offensive 12 days ago, according to the UN's humanitarian agency.

Since the start of its military operation in Gaza, Israel has lost seven soldiers on the ground.

Militants have also launched hundreds of rockets into Israel, killing four people.

Casualty claims in Gaza cannot be independently verified.

Israel is refusing to let international journalists into Gaza, despite a supreme court ruling to allow a limited number of reporters to enter the territory.

I am craving a yummy home made pot of chickpea curry. Last time Jeff and Nikki made it from scratch and it was fantastic.

Also, anyone who turns down an opportunity like that deserves a punch in the face. I hope she gets one.

Don't ask.
